Two Times For Two - Grieg “Morningmood” & Solveig's Song

The Peer Gynt Suites 1 and 2 by Edvard Grieg are following the drama Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen to the best-known orchestral works of romantic music. Ibsen and Grieg had met in 1866 in Rome, had never become friends. At that time Ibsen was working on the dramatic poem "Peer Gynt", following the presentation of Norwegian fairy tale of Peter Christen Asbjørnsen. After the success of the composition, Ibsen was planning to turn it into a stage play and instructed Grieg to write the music for it. The play was premiered in 24th February 1876. From corresponding music Grieg put together the suites 1888 and 1891, which bear the names work opus 46 and 55.

"Morning Mood", the first part of the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, is used so frequently in advertising (eg AEG, Rama), film and television, that it's the best-known classical melodie at all counts. 1998 the song used "Ocean of Light" by In-Mood Juliette & the theme of this piece as a hookline. The American metal band Kamelot with the Norwegian singer Roy Khan used in their song (Forever), the famous melody from Solveig's Song from Peer Gynt Suite No. 2 op 55.
